Inventory to sales ratio - Indikator für SC-Flexibilität?

Global Supply Chains - Profitability first
PwC published their annual "Global Supply Chain Survey" for 2013. Main result: In times of unsecure future economy development, the optimization of supply chains in terms of profitability attracts high management attention. Sustainability hasn't yet been recognized as a potential competitive advantage why investments in this area of supply chain management will just slightly increase until 2015. Another important fact is the decreasing performance gap between industrialized and developping countries.

How globalized is the world? - DHL Global Connectedness Index
A current study of logistics service provider DHL shows an interesting result: The world is less globally connected today than it was in 2007, according to the Global Connectedness Index. It measures and analyzes the global connectedness of 140 countries, covering 99% of the world's GDP and 95% of its population. The index is influenced by the depth and breadth of countries' trade, capital, information and people flows. Is this result still a consequence of the global financial crisis of 2007?

4 steps to increase supply chain's sustainability
How to reduce carbon emissions of global supply chains? Many companies and logistic service providers realize the increasing importance of this topic for their customers. Currently the main problem for most organizations is the missing experience in creating "green logistics solutions" as well as finding the right approach to avoid ecological consequences caused by supply chains. But regarding the success some businesses already achieved with their efforts on greening the supply chain, the complexity of actions taken should be manageable. By concentrating on pure logistic processes four main opportunities to reduce carbon emissions are worth mentioning:

Development of a logistics balanced scorecard
As I mentioned in my last post profitability, structural, productivity and quality oriented ratios are common objectives in logistic strategies. In order to control logistics activities performance indicators need to report all relevant information to show trends and developments. Within a balanced scorecard logistics management has the opportunity to match strategic objectives and KPIs. This is the first and most important step before implementing a balanced scorecard. If management just focuses on "easy to measure" KPIs which are not connected to the logistics strategy a balanced scorecard just hides key problems. Furthermore, taken actions to improve the wrong KPIs have no positive impact on the strategic goals. In consequence time and effort are wasted.

SuCess Toolbox - Logistics Balanced Scorecard
In terms of business performance measurement most companies focus on financial KPIs like Return on Equity, Economic Value Added or share price, just to mention a few of them. Mostly the results of these figures are even confusing due to a missing linkage to the company's strategy. In consequence, a huge amount of big companies lead their business by concentrating on less than ten main KPIs. Nevertheless lower management levels as well as single departments need to define own, more process oriented performance indicators to realize continuous improvements and support the company's strategic objectives.

8 megatrends that impact supply chain networks - part 1
The design of supply chain networks is a common task for suppliers, manufacturers and retailers to meet customer requirements. Although the customer should always be in the focus of strategic business decisions, several megatrends have a huge impact on the design of global logistics networks. Four of them can be described as follows:
