As promised a few days ago the megatrends 5 to 8 are described in the following post. These megatrends are more focused on the internal perspective of economy than on global economical developments.
An increased price preasure in numerous markets forces companies to restructure their order to payment processes to stay competitive. Lean management thinking in production and administration processes lead to cost reduction opportunities companies need to realize.
6. Deregulation and privatization of former public services
Telecommunication and transportation services can be mentioned here as current examples. This leads to an increase of competition in the market and a lower price level as an immediate consequence.
7. Shareholder Value thinking, concentration towards core competences and outsourcing
Company strategies are more investors-oriented. The importance of long term perspective decisions decreases constantly. Consequences are the reduction of depth of added value as well as a concentration on core competences.
8. Utilization of new information and communication technologies
Innovative software solutions provide high transparency in business processes and have the potential to create new markets worldwide. Especially in logistics a remarkable development of IT-tools could be recognized in the last years to plan and control global supply chains.
To be honest, a lot more global trends like urbanisation, political and social developments or individualization can be mentioned here. Actually, not all of them have a direct impact on logistics but industry has to be aware of all economical, political and social developments having an impact on their business.
